Boodle fight is a military style of eating where long tables are prepared and food are placed on top of the banana leaves. Viands and rice are ready to eat using your bare hands (urbandictionary.com). This way of eating is a tradition from the Philippine military, particularly in the Philippine military Academy (PMA), which symbolizes fraternity and equality among military members by sharing the same food without regard to rank. It is usually prepared in celebration after a successful event or for a special occasion.

Because our kids received gold medals as their awards during the Quiz Bee Competition in their school, they deserve a celebration and boodle fight was an option.

We headed to Boodlelicious Grill located at CDO Night Cafe and Bazaar, Pelaez Rotonda, Nazareth, Cagayan de Oro City. We have come across its name in the internet and it was our first time to dine thereat.

Upon entering their hut, we were greeted by their friendly staff and helped us on their menu. Since there were only four of us, including our two kids, we ordered their “Bang Bang Boodle”.  This menu can accommodate 4-5 persons. It has 1 grilled Panga, 5 pork barbecues, 6 grilled shrimps, assorted vegetables and 8 cups of rice. You can have it for only Php540.00 without drinks.

Few minutes later, about 15-20 minutes, our order arrived. We were amazed of their food presentation.  The rice was piled neatly in the center, flanked by grilled shrimps and squid. Beside was the curve tuna “panga” as well as other viands.

As it was a boodle style of eating, after a prayer, we started shoving our bare hand to the food. Some people might get turned off as you’re using your bare hands to pick the food but just don’t mind them.  Just thoroughly wash your hands with soap and that’s it. Here are some of the snapshots

Undoubtedly, boodle style of eating is more exciting than dining out in a fancy restaurant. It’s a very fun dining experience with my family.

Boodlelicious Grill offers variety of Boodle meals to choose from.  Their “Bang Bang Boodle” never fails our expectation. We left their place with much memories and of course bulging stomach. But as a warning, never visit this place if you’re not hungry enough because you might not be able to finish or consume your food. Have you tried boodle fight?
