Sinulog Festival 2015, Gitagum Misamis Oriental | Snapshots
5:16 PM
The Municipality of Gitagum, Misamis Oriental, is one of the places that celebrate Sinulog Festival every third Sunday of January. Cebu City is known for this festive celebration. The Sinulog Festival is in honor of the Santo Nino or the Child Jesus, who is represented by an image that devotees consider miraculous.
One of the main highlights of the festival is the street procession or parade after the first mass. Devotees from nearby places bring the image Sr. Santo Niño and dance to the rhythm of drums, trumpets and native gongs. Some dressed themselves in bright coloured costumes. Pilgrims from different parts of the province make their yearly journey to the church to take part in the procession and festival. This festival promotes tourist attraction, with a contest featuring contingents from various parts of the province which happens after the second mass.
The word Sinulog comes from the Cebuano adverb sulog which roughly means "like water current movement;" it describes the forward-backward movement of the Sinulog dance. The dance consists of two steps forward and one step backward, done to the sound of drums.
Our family, specially my parents, has rooted devotion to Sr. Santo Niño. During the feast also, relatives come to our house to celebrate with us. Here are some of the snapshots
